the art of carpet weaving and knotting has a history which is more than 2000 years old. the Oriental carpet has been a desired art object and collector´s item since at least the 16th century and has also become a status symbol for the wealthiest social stratum in the Western world. as an art object it can be found in many collections of important Western museums all over the world.

in its original use it serves as a protection against the cold ground and refers at the same time to the boundaries of the dwelling in which it is situated. the ornamentation with its symbolism is the mute language of the Oriental carpet: his surfaces conveyes coded messages. at the beginning of the 1980s a steady stream of carpets began appearing in the Afgani Belouch carpet sector whose ornamentation consisted of the stylized representation of war machines rather than the usual traditional and familiar motifs. the dominant motifs of these weaved testimonials range from weapons from Kalaschnikow and hand granades to the powerful weapons which were used during winter 1979 as the Soviet occupation troops marched in.
